The Auto Heavy Line Technician is responsible for performing advanced mechanical repairs
and diagnostics on engines, transmissions, and other major vehicle components. This role
handles the most complex repairs in the shop, including engine rebuilds, transmission
replacements, heavy mechanical work, and warranty-related tear-downs. The technician
ensures all work meets manufacturer specifications, safety standards, and shop quality
expectations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Diagnose and repair major mechanical systems including engines and transmissions.
- Perform engine tear-downs, overhauls, replacements, and reseals.
- Conduct heavy mechanical repairs such as timing components, cylinder heads, internal
engine components, and subframe work.
- Use advanced diagnostic tools to identify root causes of mechanical failures.
- Document findings, repair recommendations, and labor times accurately.
- Follow OEM procedures, shop safety practices, and quality control standards.
- Assist with road testing, inspections, and verifying completed repairs.
- Maintain a clean, organized workspace and adhere to all environmental and safety
regulations.
Qualifications:
- 3–5+ years of professional automotive repair experience (heavy line required).
- Strong knowledge of engines, transmissions, drivetrains, and mechanical systems.
- Ability to read and follow OEM repair procedures and technical manuals.
- ASE certifications preferred (Master Tech ideal).
- Valid driver’s license with a clean record.
