You're not gonna believe this... A real blast from the past, with practical modern day uses!
One Note to the Buyer: Due to the HP Bios on this machine considering the processor to be "unsupported," you will need to press the F1 key during startup to ignore the "unsupported CPU" warning. Rest assured, the CPU works just fine, I've tested it for quite a few hours. It's just that HP is strict about what parts people modify their machines with. This message can possibly be permanently fixed with some sort of method that I'm simply unaware of.
This listing is for a heavily modified, upgraded and reconditioned HP Pro 3500 MT. Running GNU/LINUX. Specifically, it has Kubuntu 24.04 GNU/Linux LTS installed. This is an OEM install, ready for you to make your own user account, and you can set up an Ubuntu Pro account if you wish. Of course, the machine has been tested for several hours and works great.
Details and specifications are as follows:
CPU has been upgraded to an Intel i7-3770k Processor 3.5ghz (with Turbo mode it clocks at 3.9ghz)
The CPU was freshly installed by me for this listing, and new Thermal paste has been applied
BRAND NEW OEM INTEL HEATSINK AND CPU FAN! Impressed yet?
Inside and out the entire machine has been thoroughly cleaned with isopropyl alcohol. Body has been reconditioned and generally looks great but I did end up having to put a few daubs of touch up paint, please see photos.
Machine comes with a DVD+RW Drive, Tested & Working
BRAND NEW 600w ThermalTake Power Supply
Some Additional Things I've installed for you: a few video games, MineTest (libre open source Minecraft alternative), OpenArena (libre open source version of Quake 3 Arena), VLC, and libdvdcss2 so you can use the DVD drive to watch DVDs properly. Also added a few wallpapers you might like (all creative commons licensed images!).
Free USB Wi-Fi 100mbps Card Included. This works fine but you may want to upgrade this if you have a faster internet connection available. Can also connect via ethernet, of course without issue.
There is no Monitor, mouse or keyboard included. I figured most would like to pick their own options for these.
Perfectly suitable for retro gaming, emulation, graphic design, office work, and so on. This machine is a blast from the past, but is actually still perfectly suitable for modern usage if you also are able to understand its limitations. I would advise against trying to run modern versions of Windows on here--a build like this is not meant for that. GNU/Linux is truly the only serious option for revitalizing old hardware like this. There is a video on YouTube about a similar build to this running some modern video games, feel free to look at that video before purchasing this PC.
