Job Summary:
We’re seeking an organized, proactive Assistant Kitchen Manager to support daily kitchen operations, maintain food quality and safety, lead and train staff, and help ensure smooth service. This role combines hands-on cooking and prep with supervisory, inventory, and scheduling responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist Kitchen Manager/Executive Chef in planning and executing daily service and special events
Supervise, train, and mentor kitchen staff; enforce standards for performance, hygiene, and teamwork
Oversee food prep, portioning, plating, and presentation to maintain consistency and quality
Monitor and maintain food safety and sanitation standards
Manage inventory: order supplies, conduct stock counts, minimize waste and control food costs
Create and maintain prep lists, production schedules, and shift checklists
Help develop menus and assist with recipe costing and portion control
Ensure equipment is clean, maintained, and reported for repair when needed
Step in for Kitchen Manager during their absence, including handling staff issues and service problems
Maintain accurate records (temperature logs, inventory, deliveries, labor hours)
Qualifications:
Kitchen supervisory experience (restaurant, hotel, catering or similar)
Strong culinary skills and knowledge of food safety regulations; ServSafe or equivalent certification preferred
Experience with inventory management, ordering, and basic food costing
Excellent leadership, communication, and time-management skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and lift up to 25 lbs; flexible schedule including nights/weekends/holidays
High school diploma or equivalent; culinary school preferred but not required
