United Access of San Diego, located in Kearny Mesa, has a 2017 Toyota Sienna XLE in white with only 28,907 miles on the odometer, offered for sale. This Sienna has been converted into a wheelchair accessible vehicle by Vantage Mobility Inc. This modification provides a ton of additional space inside the van to make it possible for a person in a wheelchair to access it. The floor has been lowered, the floor is made flat and smooth to roll the wheelchair over, there's a computer controlled electronic power deploying and retracting ramp system that's integrated to the passenger side sliding door, an also computer controlled and integrated power kneeling system to lower the van, driver and front passenger seats which are easily removable and built on rolling platforms for moving, strong and simple to use integrated L track system in the floor for securing wheelchairs.
This Toyota is a great vehicle and in great condition. We rarely have any late model Toyota Sienna vans that are priced under 50K. The reason is that the owners of these vans tend to keep them for a long time, and when they are available they tend to be the first ones for people to purchase. I think that most of our customers just feel more comfortable owning a pre-owned Toyota than just about anything else. Every system in this vehicle in functional and in good working order. It has been thoroughly inspected by our service department who have given us the green light to offer it for sale. We have also had the entire van inspected by a local third party service center who have gone through the van and given their seal of approval too. We check, and double check, and triple check these vehicles for a VERY good reason. Having a breakdown for someone with mobility issues is much more difficult and much more stressful than it is for someone without mobility issues. The van is incredibly easy to use. The factory key/remote entry system activates both power doors, and when the right hand door is activated, the power ramp deploys automatically. When the power door is closed electronically, the power ramp retracts first, then the power door closes up behind it. Upon deployment of the power ramp, the integrated kneeling system activates to bring the van closer to the ground and reduces the angle of the ramp which makes it safer and more convenient to enter or exit the van with a wheelchair or scooter. Again, when the power ramp retracts, the kneeling system goes back to the standard ride height for safe operation.
Other features and conveniences of the VMI Northstar system are rubberized flooring throughout the cabin area which provides more traction and protection for wheelchairs and mobility scooters. The integrated L track system for securing chairs, scooters, or seatbelts keeps riders and drivers safe and legal. Factory style switches installed in the van control the doors, kneel system, and ramp and look like OEM equipment. The rear seat is located in a specific area to allow for more room to move scooters or chairs, but still be comfortable for an adult to ride in. There are even dual spring loaded foot rests built into the van for those passengers.
Exterior body molded paneling (ground effects) make this modified van look great and actually enhance the factory styling. The bodywork also includes built in steps for easier entry and exit from the front doors.. Both front seats are designed to release from the floor with a step pedal, and are mounted on wheels for easy removal and reinstall whenever needed. The seats also include a simple to use plug system that allows you to retain all of the factory electronic seat functions.
