Here is a very rare antique Milwaukee Chair Co San Diego Courthouse Judges chair 1890-1899. The mahogany and soft black leather chair is in outstanding condition and functions as it was 125+ years ago when new. Sturdy and comfortable, swivels and rocks back as the dual steel springs creak with a nostalgic sound of extreme quality desk furniture. Recently, very professionally reupholstered and retains San Diego County brass plaque. Chair is 50" tall.
The Milwaukee Chair Co supplied the US House and Senate and High Courts from 1889. Milwaukee Chair Company, once the largest American manufacturer devoted exclusively to the manufacture of fine office chairs. The company was organized in 1889 by John Bostwick, a local jeweler and son-in-law of Barnum Blake. He was one of the largest investors and eventually owned most of the shares and became president of the company. It was destroyed twice: the first time by a huge, devastating fire in 1899 and the second time by demolition in 1959.
