Aloha!
Offering free of charge, no hassle solar consultations and quotes, in person or over the phone. The time to take a closer look at taking advantage of the sun and switching to solar power and battery backup for your home, rental property, or business is now as market conditions and opportunities are better than ever. We can also help with your roofing needs.
We offer every type of purchasing option available. There’s currently four ways to go solar, three of which come with no upfront costs and immediate monthly savings. Those four options are; Cash Purchase; $0 Down financing with a loan; $0 Down Power Purchase Agreement(PPA); and $0 Down Solar Plus PPA.
Solar Plus PPA is a unique utility-provided program by the non-profit Clean Energy Alliance that does not require a credit check and is available to residential, rental, or commercial properties within the cities of Del Mar, Solana Beach, Carlsbad, Oceanside, Vista, San Marcos, or Escondido. Please reach out for more details on this program.
If you would like a free consultation to learn which program fits your situation best and determine your system costs and savings I could use a recent utility bill to effectively build your proposal and would prefer to schedule a time to meet or jump on a phone call so I can ask the appropriate questions to fine tune your system to your current and future needs and explain the details.
To find your bill go to SDG&E online or under their My Energy Center app and click on the Billing tab, and then Usage. Once there scroll down and click on “View Your Detailed Bill PDF” in blue text. That PDF shows your electrical usage in a bar graph over the last 13 months that will help me determine how many panels you will need to begin with. If that’s trouble you can also take a picture of the first page of your bill and send my way. I included an example of the first page on the last picture added on this post’s photos.
Why go solar?
Well you’re already paying for it for one. If you qualify for one of our $0 Down options, we install your solar and battery system with no upfront costs. After the system is operational you just pay off the system monthly, or purchase the power at a low fixed rate via a PPA. Either way that monthly rate is usually substantially lower than what you were already paying to SDG&E to “rent” your power. Essentially it’s a bill swap with immediate savings and several additional benefits.
In California’s current utility agreement solar only makes financial sense by including a battery as it protects the home from pulling from the grid at night and being subject to never ending utility rate hikes. Batteries also protect your home with indefinite backup protection in case of emergencies, black outs, or brown outs. It’s a strong benefit knowing your fridge and freezers will maintain fresh food, your lights work preventing slips in the middle of the night, your home protection and alarm systems continue operating protecting your family, your garage doors open electronically for quick exit, and your WiFi works so you can research the emergency and gain invaluable information. What value would you put on knowing that your family is safe while you are away?
New studies from Zillow shows how solar adds instant value to your property. The latest study in California shows that homes with solar sell for 5% to 10% more, with an average of 6.9%. For the average $790,000 California home, that’s a $39,500 to $79,000 boost in resale value. Solar is a Green Home Improvement Project; it does not increase your property tax fees.
Of course solar is a clean, renewable energy source, helping preserve our environment. Digging deeper, solar panels and batteries come with their own carbon footprint to produce, but just as EV’s have a carbon neutral breakeven point after hitting a certain number of miles, after just a couple years of operation the solar system makes up for it’s own production impact, and every day after that point the system benefits our planet.
Lastly, solar gives you control over your power liability, ie your personal finances. As discussed, solar can provide immediate savings that grow over time with predictable fixed payments for 25 years. SDG&E has the become the most expensive utility in the nation, recently overcoming Hawaii, and they have been raising their rates faster than ever. SDG&E rates have nearly quadrupled since 2010, but the scary part is that their rates have more than doubled since 2020. With the surge of demand from EV cars, AI computing, crypto mining, all-electric homes, bigger devices, and more population, they are constantly in need of more revenue to maintain a safe and reliable grid to handle this tremendous rise in demand. To their disadvantage is their supply chain, which is their grid, as it is 100 years old and getting older. The final dagger in this situation is that most homes in Southern California have or are going solar, taking away revenue.
So SDG&E is in a dreadful demand and supply problem that is only getting worse, paving the way for sharper rate increases than we have ever seen in the next handful of years. For reference, Illinois utilities raised their rates by 50% this June. There’s no saying CA won’t do the same in the near future. Going solar protects you from these rate hikes, giving you control of your power liability and personal finances, putting savings in your pocket, adding multiple benefits to your home, and preserving our environment at the same time. It’s truly a win-win.
What you should look for when choosing a solar provider?
From my experience, it is most important that you find a solar provider that you can trust. A strong track record, strong reviews, and local reputation are all elements that I would suggest you should be looking for. The saying, “you get what you pay for” rings true in solar, as at the end of the day solar is a construction project. You will always be able to find cheaper quotes, but if that company shuts its doors several of your warranties go out the door with it. Sadly most online solar brokers use business models to make a quick buck for a short period of time but can’t build the cost of providing 25-Year services/warranties into their quotes with such low pricing, and therefore close the business while they are still profitable.
I also suggest finding a company that has grown organically(without major investments) and isn’t growing too rapidly. 80% of solar companies in CA went out of business in 2023 when solar went through it’s major changes, many of which expanded their operations too quickly for their own good and ultimately couldn’t weather the storm. I would be wary of new solar companies promising the world over in warranties and service, as well as larger companies quickly expanding their business into other markets and states, as every state and every county has their own rules and regulations that are often learned by trial and error with the homeowner as the guinea pig. I’d also suggest being careful of solar brokers that hire third party installers to do the installation work, as quality control is lost when you don’t know exactly who will be working on your home.
What is a PPA?
Simply put, a Power Purchase Agreement(PPA) is a contract agreeing to have a third-party owned and maintained solar and battery system installed on your property at no upfront costs. The system replaces the majority of the existing power bill with a much lower and predictable monthly rate for the 25 year period of warranties and maintenance.
Throughout the nation the PPA has become the most popular option for going solar, and for good reason. Otherwise known as a lease, although the leases from the past had many downsides that the current PPA has resolved. I would be happy to cover the pros and cons of each purchasing option, and give my suggestion on which option would be best for your situation, but in general the PPA has become the option that makes the most sense for several reasons.
To start, the PPA is a $0 Down option that provides the lowest monthly payment available, providing you the greatest monthly and yearly savings to begin with. The 30% Investment Tax Credit(ITC) is gone for ownership options but is still valid for PPA’s until the end of 2026 as per the Big Beautiful Bill it get’s absorbed into a PPA contract, paving the way for PPA companies to provide solar for $0 down and historically low monthly payments. Additionally, there is a new 10% Domestic Content tax credit by using 100% American-Made products that can only be absorbed in a PPA contract, which helps lower the monthly costs even further. These together are providing solar for $0 Down and essentially 40% OFF RIGHT NOW. The other $0 Down option of ownership via a financial loan cannot absorb the ITC nor the Domestic Content credit and comes with much higher initial monthly costs and a 7-8% monthly interest rate, which isn’t ideal.
The PPA contract also comes with an additional 25-Year Production Guarantee Warranty, which is the best warranty of them all. Simply put, if anything happens to the system that makes it underproduce it’s on the PPA company to either replace or add panels or a battery to ensure that it produces what was promised on the PPA contract, providing extra peace of mind that you don’t have to worry about maintenance of the system for the next 25 years. Important to note that this warranty also protects the battery for 25 years. With ownership purchasing options batteries come with the standard 10-Year warranties, and similar to all electronics they will degrade exponentially faster after the 10 year mark. With a PPA contract, your battery may be replaced by the PPA company at anytime within the 25 year contract period if it fails or becomes inefficient, which is a huge plus as typical batteries cost around $15,000 a piece.
With a PPA contract you will also receive the other standard solar warranties from the installer and equipment manufacturers; Roof Penetration Warranty(protection against roof leaks); Workmanship Warranty; Performance Warranty; and Equipment Warranty.
Additionally, a PPA is not a financial loan, therefore your debt to income ratio will not be affected, nor will your credit.
Lastly, because a PPA is not a loan, it is much easier to transfer the contract/monthly payment to a new homeowner in case you were ever to sell your home. In order to qualify for a PPA a credit score of 650 or higher is required, and upon transferring the contract the new homeowner would need a credit score of 650 or higher as well, although if they don’t have that credit score they can pay a fee and take over the contract.
At anytime during the PPA contract you can purchase the system outright so that you own it free and clear. When doing so, the PPA company will deduct any incentives(ITC and Domestic Content tax credits), as well as depreciation to determine fair market value, to arrive at your total cost. The 25 Year Production Guarantee ends once purchased, but the other four warranties stated above continue for their respectful periods.
In summary, the PPA is the best $0 Down option as it provides the lowest monthly payment available with the greatest instant savings, best warranties, most ease in transferring, least impact on your debt to income ratio, and an easy buyout option, all providing the most benefits, most flexibility, and least amount of risk to you as the property owner.
Why choose Aloha Solar Power?
Based out of Encinitas, Aloha is founded and operated by Gabe Wellsheim, a hands-on master electrician originally from Hawaii who is extremely knowledgeable and experienced within the industry and more importantly genuinely cares about providing great customer service. Please check our reviews via the link below for customer feedback to support this. Aloha is an in-house installer, we don’t hire third party companies for any of our work, meaning you know exactly who will be working on your home during install day and for the next 25 years of service and warranties. Our installation crews are comprised of strictly certified electricians. This is important as I’ve experienced many bonehead mistakes on jobs made by entry level constructor workers from other installers. It’s unfortunately common within the industry. The last thing I want to do is damage my client’s home, and there’s no better crews in San Diego to trust to do the job well than Aloha’s. Aloha’s back to back first place finishes at the Solar Games National Competition supports this, we’re the champs!
Unlike bigger solar companies that operate in multiple states and have a large company culture to train and inspire new reps, making overhead costs high and therefore pricing high, Aloha only hires experienced sales reps, keeps the team small, and does all training online, eliminating overhead and ensuring great professionalism from the entire crew. Additionally Aloha’s goal is to only service greater San Diego County to maintain ultimate quality control, staying local for fast response times is more important than expanding the business to other areas. This all means that we offer the best customer experience available, with the best construction quality, at competitive pricing. Due to strong reputation and industry referrals, Aloha was hand selected by the Clean Energy Alliance to be the certified installer for their Solar Plus program in San Diego. Lastly Aloha proudly does volunteer work, recently installing a donated solar and battery system for a school in Tijuana.
Why trust me?
Below is a link to my digital business card that links to our Yelp reviews, Google reviews, Better Business Bureau(BBB) page, our website, short educational videos, my contact information, and my personal reviews. I’ve been in the industry for many years, worked for several companies selling solar nationwide, and absolutely love what I do. I’ve been through the wringer with regards to experiencing less than stellar installation crews, misleading proposal building softwares, companies that don’t hold up to their promises, utility changes, you name it. I looked far and wide to find the best local solar company so that I could put my customers in the best position possible when going solar, and thankfully Aloha Solar Power stood out as the clear winner. I explain more in my bio in the link below. End of the day I want to be able to rest well at night knowing my customers are in the best hands possible, and Aloha Solar Power is hands down the best company to provide this.

Personally solar has changed my life for the better by allowing me to work diligently in field I hold passion in. I’m a college graduate, former Scuba Instructor, glorified surf wanderer, and high alpine backpacking enthusiast. Born and raised in Leucadia, a community of Encinitas, there’s no place I’d rather work than San Diego. Solar is a true win-win once you understand how it all works, and helping people make the switch to take advantage of the sun is something that I have grown to love. I’m a detail oriented kinda guy, which translates well to this industry as there’s much to know to make sure a solar and battery system is sized properly for a home.
I’m looking forward to working with you. Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns you may have at anytime, I’d be happy to chat.
Mahalo!
