I'm a software engineer looking to start renting a room (immediately) on a month-to-month basis. Since tomorrow is the first of the month I figured there might be somebody out there looking to fill up the empty room in their house / apartment right away (maybe you're short on rent? roommate moved out? who knows!)
I don't know exactly how long I'll need a place to stay for yet; it could be a few months or it could be longer depending on what happens with my Mom (she lives out of state and I may need to go back home again to help take care of her at some point this year, but I'm not sure yet). But I could definitely commit to something like a 3 or 6 month minimum if you need me to.
Since this is a temporary situation, I'm not looking to sign a lease or become an "official roommate" or start a new social circle as much as I'm just looking for a place to work, sleep, and relax. I'm looking for something simple and straightforward. I'm not trying to go through a leasing company or make a long-term commitment to anything because I don't know how long I'll actually need to stay. If things change where I don't need to go take care of my Mom anytime soon and I end up needing a permanent or semi-permanent place then I'd be open to a long-term arrangement for the right fit.
I'm trying to find something quickly and keep the process as simple as possible, so I'd prefer not to do the whole "first month, last month, plus a deposit" thing to move in. I can show up with the first month's rent ready to go and pay however you prefer (cash, Venmo, Zelle, Cash App, etc). If you only have a room available temporarily that's okay too; after a month or two I could find a different place if you need me to.
I can comfortably pay up to $2,500 per month, but I also don't want to spend more than $2,500 total to move in. So if rent is $2,500, I can pay that amount (first month) upfront with no issue. If a deposit is required, that's fine, but the rent would need to be lower so the total move-in cost stays within my budget. For example, $1,500 rent plus a $1,000 deposit would work for me. In short, I'm looking to keep both my monthly rent and my initial move-in costs below $2,500.
My credit is fairly good and I don't have any evictions or anything like that, but I did just buy a new car so I am trying to avoid having any new credit checks run because inquiries make your score go down and I'm trying to launch a second business right now and I don't want my credit affected by people checking it for a simple housing arrangement.
So, I'm just looking for a month-to-month situation and if / when I do decide to leave I will make sure to let you know at the beginning of my final month so you'll have plenty time to find someone else.
As I said, I am a software engineer and spend most of my time working. I work from home (but I am not constantly home) and I spend most of my time on my laptop programming. I have a website, LinkedIn, etc that will tell you more about me, my work history, etc. I generally keep to myself and just try to work as much as I can. I have plenty of work references that will vouch for my work ethic and trustworthiness. Additionally, I have a letter of employment and income verification from my boss and you're welcome to call and talk to her as well.
I don't drink, smoke cigarettes, or do hard drugs drugs. But to be clear, this is California and I have no problem with people who drink alcohol or smoke weed (I am 420 friendly and smoke myself, but I would respect any rules you have about smoking inside), I have no interest in being around people who do hard or dangerous drugs. If you're a relaxed and easy going person I'd have no problem hanging out once in a while, but I am really just looking for a new place, not new friends.
I'll be very respectful of your space and your rules. I leave a very small footprint and don't need much. I'm not particularly concerned with luxury or having lots of space, just privacy. A private bathroom would be great, but I'm also okay with a shared one. Same goes for a private entrance, if there's a private entrance into my room that would be ideal, but not necessary.
I'm currently staying with some friends until I can find a place, but I don't want to overstay my welcome, so I'm trying to find someplace to rent sooner rather than later which means I could move in right away if you're in a position for that. I wouldn't be bringing much with me except my computer and some clothes, etc (and a bed, etc if your room isn't furnished). I'm not trying to move in and "take over" or "invade" a space or anything. I wouldn't have many visitors (other than my girlfriend might come / stay once in a while, but she has her own house, car, job, etc so you don't have to worry about getting a "second roommate". I also don't have any pets (but I don't mind them if you have any).
I am steadily employed as a software engineer for a company here in San Diego and also spend a lot of time out of the house doing tech support visits, etc. I'm also a musician and out of the house a a lot for social stuff (but I wouldn't be playing music at your place or anything).
I'm clean, quiet, respectful, I don't cause any trouble, I keep to myself, and I pay on time (I rented my last house here in San Diego for over 3 years until I went back home to help with my Mom) and I can provide you with my previous landlord's information so you can confirm that I am a good tenant who pays responsibly. I won't overstay my welcome, I'll let you know before I decide to move out, and I won't "squat" or make it difficult for you. I'm just looking for an easy going and straightforward arrangement with no complications. I'm perfectly happy to sign a contract with you that outlines the terms, etc so you feel comfortable; I'm just not trying to get locked into a lease / credit check / deposit (and the hassle of trying to get the deposit back after I move out) / complicated situation.
Hopefully someone out there needs a little extra cash and has some space to rent out to me for a little while. Bonus points if you're in a beach city (Ocean Beach, Point Loma, Mission Beach, etc).
p.s. To the scammers out there, I will NOT send any money up front. Once we meet in person and I see your place and you are ready to hand me a key I will pay you in full. I'm not sending money to anyone that I haven't met in person and agreed to rent from. Also, no commercial properties, leasing companies, etc. I'm just looking for a regular person who has an extra room.
I'm able to move in on June 1st and can pay you cash (or Venmo, Zelle, Cash App, etc) if it seems to be a good fit.
