**Price just lowered for last time! First $1,500 takes whole car! With extras!
This is an original paint factory White 1972 Mercedes Benz Convertible 350SL with a removable hard top and a retractable soft top.
This car was my moms since the beginning. (around 45 years). After putting 180,000 miles on it she needed an engine rebuild and at the same time she rear ended a car which only scratched her front bumper, she didn't need to replace any parts at all. She took a $5,000 payoff and let the insurance company total the car. Then she gave it to me. I had the engine rebuilt and was in the process of restoring the car part by part. The interior is in mint condition as the car has always been garaged. However it does have a salvaged title due to the insurance payout. I had a brand new exhaust installed.(front and back) New Tires and brakes. Like I said, I've been restoring the car as fast as possible to keep this car as a family heirloom. The engine rebuild cost me over $5,000 and so I figured it was all downhill from there.
Then tragedy happened. My business is going out of business, I already own five other cars, this one being number SIX! I don't drive any of my cars much, but start them each weekend to keep them healthy. That's when a had a serious gas line failure that doused the engine compartment with gas and caught the car on fire. By the time I got it out, in less than 2 minutes! all plastic parts under the hood were damaged as well as the hood became so hot that the paint has peeled on the hood. The car has no interior damage or smells. I was already starting to sell off my other cars and intended to keep this car for life, however, it's just unrealistic for me at this point.
I paid the registration and just now changed the car over to non-op with the DMV. My mechanic says it's not bad at all, but he's a mechanic! At this point I'd rather sell the car to one person for a reasonable amount. Knowing that the car just had the engine rebuilt by a master mercedes mechanic (he is available to discuss any questions or concerns you may have)
If someone doesn't come forward offering me a minimum of $2,000. for the whole thing Then I will start parting this car out for sale. I would like to start taking offers on all parts now. The entire car is OEM Mercedes Germany. All the glass, lights, lenses, etc. are in amazing new condition. The interior is absolutely mint. The seats were covered their entire life and when I took the covers off just now. They are literally Brand NEW NEVER USED LOOKING!! The seats alone in mercedes TEX black leather are worth at least $1,500 in the condition they are in. The rims are upgraded Mercedes SL Centra Style Chrome wheels, I have the hardtop with a rolling stand and a cover when you want to take the top off completely. Brand New Exhausts. The most popular parts are the bumpers, the OG european thin chrome bumpers. They are straight and in good shape. The front one needs to be re-chromed. If you want the bumpers, $1,000 TAKES THEM BOTH. FIRM. All things worth $$$ to people interested in the parts.
Again, I'd rather sell it as one unit to one person, but am taking bids on everything now and will probably have to go that direction with it eventually anyway. So submit to me what parts and when you absolutely need them by, if you can take them off yourself or if you need me to do that. There would of course be a cost to everything.
I will add tons of photos ASAP, please be patient with me, I have allot going on.
My name is Chris, please text me or email me your bids and questions, offers etc. I'm in Pacific Beach if you'd like to schedule a time to see it.
My cell is Six One Nine Two Five Two 8 Six 8 Seven.
The list of items my mechanic said MIGHT need to be replaced to get it running strong again are.....
Brake Booster Hose
Cold Start Valve
Temperature Switch
Valve Cover Breather hose
Warm up hose
D-Jet wiring harness
Air Intake Sensor
Fuel Hoses - 8mm
Ignition wires
**Remember, THIS CAR IS A COLLECTORS ITEM and is special. It's a sleeper because all the literature says this SL is a 3.5 liter V8. In actuality, all of the SL's in 1972 came with a 4.5 liter V8. However Mercedes didn't change the name to 450SL until 1973. Mercedes always offered to change the badges to 450SL for free if wanted , but that is something I would never do. That is why this car is so special!
Thank you for your consideration in this Vintage Mercedes Convertible.
