My name is Rachel. I am offering virtual piano and violin lessons for students of all ages, ranging from 6 years old to adults. I teach both popular and classical styles and my lessons are tailored for each student's needs and goals. I incorporate many different musical approaches in our lessons to ensure that students are engaged and enjoy learning the instrument, all while gaining strong musicianship skills and a fundamental understanding of music theory. Weekly lessons are virtual and conducted via Zoom.
In addition to private lessons, students are also invited to participate in virtual group classes and recitals to allow them opportunities to learn and perform with other students and musicians all over the country.
I have loved music from a very young age and began taking piano and violin lessons at the age of 5. I have performed with many orchestras, bands, and ensembles throughout my life and have won various competitions, awards, and scholarships for the piano and violin. I graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a BA in Music with an emphasis in Ethnomusicology. One of my main areas of study (and one of the reasons I consider music to be essential) is the many nonmusical cognitive, intellectual, and physiological benefits associated with learning a musical instrument for both children and adults. I believe music is one of the most powerful influences in the world and has the ability to alter a person's physical and mental wellbeing, which is why I love teaching and sharing the joy of music.
Although all of our classes are virtual, I strive to create a personal connection with all of my students and to offer the best quality lessons possible. My goal is to not only teach my students how to read music and play an instrument, but to also instill in them a deep appreciation for music and to help build a confidence in them that they can carry throughout their lives.
