This pair of the BC-1 has the Optimum Audio Speaker Internal Upgrade package. The crossover printed circuit board has been eliminated by hand wiring all the components, capacitors and inductors, see the pictures. The internal wiring is Teflon insulated, very expensive but has the cleanest sound. Capacitors replaced with premium audio grade polypropylene film caps. The inductors were wrapped with Teflon tape replacing the original PVC tape. Original binding posts replaced with gold plaited 5 way binding posts, spaced to take dual banana plugs. Tilting stands are of the recommended height. The tilt is for a little better high frequency dispersion. All this results in an even more finely detailed sound, more like that of an electrostatic speaker. Includes an 8 foot pair of Teflon insulted speaker wire so you get the best results with these exceptional, rare speakers. Also there is the original binding posts and cross over PC Boards.

Developed for the British Broadcasting Corp (BBC) the legendary BC-1 was the chosen monitor for the BBC system in 1969. It was famous for its accuracy and neutral sound. They were considered a true marvel of engineering, with 3rd order crossovers and a super tweeter to reach 20,000 Hz. This pair I sold to a music professor (head of the music department at Palomar College) in 1984 through my Optimum Audio business. And now they found their way back to me. The teak wood finish has been sanded and re-oiled.

Spendor was founded in the late 1960s by Spencer and Dorothy Hughes – the ‘Spen’ and ‘Dor’ in the name. Spencer applied the knowledge and expertise he’d gained as an engineer in the BBC’s sound engineering department to create his first loudspeaker, the BC1. This game-changing design quickly became the monitor of choice for broadcasters and recording studios worldwide. The British company is still going today.
