Part of the same local collection for 25 years, this is one of the last genuine Mokes built. In storage since new, its odometer reading of only 169 km (105 miles) is accurate. Think of it — this is a 31-year-old “new” car! Recently refreshed with new brake and clutch hydraulics and seals, new tires, hoses and other rubber parts subject to aging, and a thorough cleaning and flushing of the fuel and cooling systems. It now looks, runs and drives like the “new” Moke that it is. For those unfamiliar, the first Mokes were produced in England from 1964 to 1968 as a utility variant of the original Mini. British Leyland then started production in Australia in 1966, and that country was the only post-1968 source for Mokes until production ended there in 1981. As Australian production was ending, Leyland transferred production to its Portuguese subsidiary. In 1990, the "Moke" name and rights were sold to Cagiva, an Italian motorcycle manufacturer. Production then continued in Portugal under the Cagiva name until late 1993, when Moke production ended once and for all. Yes, some China-built electric "Mokes” are being imported, but there is no connection to the original other than the name and a visual resemblance. Unlike its electric imitation, this Moke is legal to drive anywhere, with no speed limitations. Nothing else provides as much pure, open-air driving fun as a Moke does. Whether it's a trip to the beach or just running a few errands, it's almost impossible to stop smiling when you're behind the wheel. Mokes are benefiting from a bit of revival now. Time to join the fun in one of the best!
