Solo Fullstack Django Developer (Contract) - Farmtech in San Diego (San Diego)

THE MISSION: Build a Complete Digital Ecosystem in 3 Months

Are you a senior-level, full-stack Django expert in the San Diego area who thrives on complex, high-impact greenfield projects? Our innovative farm operation is seeking a brilliant solo contractor to design, develop, and deploy an entire suite of five interconnected, secure, self-hosted internal applications in an accelerated three-month timeframe.

This is a high-value opportunity. You will be the Lead Architect, Developer, and DevOps Engineer for our core technology infrastructure, responsible for development, security, and cloud deployment. All applications must implement robust authentication, authorization, and strong security/privacy controls from day one.

THE FIVE GREENFIELD APPLICATIONS YOU WILL BUILD

You will be responsible for the end-to-end delivery of all five systems, built on a unified Django/Python foundation and hosted entirely on AWS.

1. Kanban Task Manager App:

• Functionality: A responsive, drag-and-drop board for farm staff to assign, track, and manage all daily operational tasks (planting, harvesting, maintenance).
• Challenge: Must feature real-time updates and user-role based permissions.

• Functionality: A secure, self-hosted repository for managing structured documents, instructions, SOPs, and "how-to" guides for staff.
• Challenge: Requires full-text search, secure file storage (S3 integration), and document version control (e.g., using Wagtail CMS or a similar framework).

• Functionality: An internal tool for high-volume photo ingestion, tagging, categorization, and searching of farm assets, crops, and equipment.
• Challenge: Efficient handling of large files, metadata management, and high performance display.

• Functionality: Build a complete, customer-facing e-commerce application with product catalog, inventory, secure payment processing (e.g., Stripe), and order management.
• Challenge: Must be designed with future distributable SaaS/multi-tenancy in mind, requiring highly secure and scalable architecture.

• Functionality: Build secure API endpoints (DRF) to ingest real-time data from various farm IoT sensors. Create an internal monitoring dashboard for visualization and alerting.
• Challenge: Handling high-frequency data streams, time-series data storage optimization, and real-time data display.

REQUIRED EXPERTISE: Full-Stack Security & DevOps

This demanding contract requires a unique developer who can own the entire stack.

CORE TECHNICAL SKILLS (Must-Haves):

• Senior Django/Python: Expert-level proficiency in Django, Django REST Framework (DRF), and database optimization.
• AWS Infrastructure: Deep knowledge of self-hosting and deployment, including VPC, EC2, RDS (PostgreSQL), S3 (for media storage), and IAM for secure access.
• Security & Auth: Direct experience implementing robust security controls, custom permissions, and hardening API endpoints.
• Data Architecture: Proven ability with complex data modeling for e-commerce, document storage, and handling high-frequency IoT time-series data.
• Front-End & Responsiveness: Proficient in delivering responsive, mobile-friendly UIs using modern tools (e.g., advanced Django templating with a framework like Tailwind/Bootstrap or HTMX).

HIGHLY VALUED SKILLS

• Prior experience with multi-tenant/SaaS architectural design patterns.
• Familiarity with containerization (Docker) and deployment pipelines.
• Experience with a task queue like Celery for background processes.
