Cloisonné is made by first shaping thin metal wires into a design on a metal base, creating "cloisons" or compartments. These compartments are then meticulously filled with colored glass enamels, often mixed with water to form a paste. The piece is fired multiple times in a kiln to melt the enamel, with subsequent layers of enamel and firing to fill the compartments. Finally, the surface is sanded and polished to achieve a smooth, glassy, and vibrant finish.
