Thanks for looking. This is a handmade Dave Moulton frame in a '56' with a 55 cm. top tube. Obviously Dave knows what he's doing - the frame and fork are both stamped "56" - but the center to center seat tube is really more like 54, and the 56 is to a point at the top of (almost above) the seat lug. That's just how he sized them. Fuso and Rechereche are both very well-documented on DavesBikeBlog. I can answer any questions you might have, but I assume that if you are looking you probably already know about the history of Recherche and the geometry and the build quality, etc.. The Recherche comprise about 10% of the output (not including John Howards and customs) from Dave's US shop, and have a slightly different scalloped or 'fish mouth' treatment at the fork ends and rear drops. This one (#198) bears a similar appearance to #193. Check it out in the 'Gallery' portion of Dave's site where it is remarked as having custom two-color paint.
Check out the photos to get an idea of the condition of the paint. There are certainly some scratches, but I would say overall it's quite good and not due for re-painting any time soon. The rear is currently at ~128 mm.. It was probably cold set or spread from 126 to 130 mm and it didn't quite stick. The dropout adjusters are turning, i.e. not frozen and the threads all look good. The tubeset sticker is about to fall off, but I might have a close replacement (the Recherche used Columbus SL tubing). There are no dents or dings or corrosion issues. No headset or BB, just what you see.
The price is pretty firm for now at $350 (lowered 8/19). This frame is about as big as I would ever ride, usually I ride 53 +/-, so might consider a trade for something interesting. Ideally sell though as I have too many frames and projects. Great piece of San Diego cycling history.
