The Adhara 30 was designed by Doug Peterson in 1985 and built by Dencho Marine. Alley Cat was the last of 3 built in 1986 and was Doug's personal boat. He was asked to design a light air boat specifically for San Diego and for 4 decades, the most active of the three has absolutely dominated their fleet. Even 40 years later. I have owned AC for the last 3 years and just done the Beercans here in Coronado but I've been crewing on Al'Niar for probably 20 years. Instead of being frustrated constantly being beat by a 40 year old boat (we consistently have the same crew and we aren't slow, arguably the best boat handling in our fleet), race against it in its 39 year old sistership. Just don't expect to beat us right out the door.
AC has good bones, she's ultra light and stripped down. Best raced with 7 to 8 people to keep her flat and powered up. Now she needs work, but AC has the makings to be a light air weapon. Sails are for daysailing (main, jib, and older spinnakers) and a 3 year old low usage Yamaha 6hp. I sail on and off dock so motor is hardly used and I fresh water rinse when I do use it. Boat isn't perfect, it's a race boat and very competitive in the right hands and with some work.
