This large, fascinating Galileo Thermometer is a sealed glass cylinder containing 10 glass spheres of varying densities. The original was invented in the mid-17th century by a group of Galileo's students and colleagues. The temperature is measured based on the principle of buoyancy. Each sphere has a metal tag identifying a specific temperature. May be used indoors both as a functioning thermometer and as a decorative piece. On E-Bay the price is $110.
