Job Summary:
This position is responsible for providing general mechanical and automotive services on Auction property, as well as over-the-road and on-site towing service to disabled customer vehicles in compliance with Auction safety rules and regulations.
Essential Functions include:
• Drive service truck to disabled vehicle and, with equipment provided on the truck and under the direction of the supervisor, provide automotive services as needed, such as jump-starts, battery installation, tire inflation, refueling, etc.
• As appropriate, assist in unlocking customer vehicles, re-keying and disarming security systems. Aid vehicles broken down in transit.
• Provide light mechanical and preventive maintenance work on service truck and ensure that it is properly stocked.
• Operate and maintain tow truck, and provide routine maintenance per manufacturer specifications (i.e. oil changes, lubes, filter changes, etc.)
• Acquire drop-receipt or pick up authorization. As directed by supervisor, properly affix truck to vehicle needing tow avoiding damage to customer vehicle.
• If rollback truck, load and properly secure customer vehicle to the truck bed as not to cause frame or tie-down damage.
• Safely tow/haul vehicle to designated area, release/unload vehicle from truck and ensure that vehicle is left in a safe, immobile manner.
• Write condition reports on customer vehicles that are picked up at another location and transported to the Auction
• Perform other duties as assigned by manager or supervisor.
• May be required to work overtime (more than 40 hours per week) as business needs dictate.
Job Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience:
• High school diploma or equivalent experience preferred.
• Must be able to drive both manual and automatic transmission vehicles.
• Valid California Class “B” Drivers License.
• 1 – 3 years experience driving a service/tow truck or rollback truck required.
Skills/Abilities:
• Ability to drive vehicles with either standard or automatic transmissions
• Clean driving record
• Positive attitude, good customer relations
• Good mobility which allows employee to enter and exit vehicles
• Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time
• Ability to tolerate exposure to atmospheric elements
