As our Apparel Product Developer, you'll be responsible for product commercialization of assigned styles. You'll analyze manufacturing capabilities, anticipate problems, facilitate problem solving and address issues in a timely manner. You'll communicate with vendors and liaison offices, product team members and others to ensure a smooth product development process. You'll work on the most challenging projects or styles understanding the risks of decisions and how they affect the production process and ensure prototypes accurately reflect construction specifications. You'll research new technologies and materials in coordination with Design and Merchandising and provide the product team with new ideas and appropriate development options. You'll ensure all appropriate development documentation is maintained for assigned styles, including product specs and prototype notes as well as create and revise garment Bill of Materials for assigned styles. You'll research, source, develop, commercialize and price assigned materials at suppliers and coordinate information and test samples for material approvals. You'll collaborate with the category product team to understand and accomplish seasonal product concepts and initiatives. You'll participate in fit sessions and/or product review with the category product team regarding assigned styles and identify key issues in product construction, material selection, manufacturing and pricing. You'll collaborate on resolutions in a timely manner and maintain data on product development status deadlines and communicate information to team members. You'll execute graphic development processes including review and artwork. You'll coordinate execution with internal and external graphic and embroidery sources.
Requirements for this position include:
• Bachelor's degree in Apparel/Textile Design, Technology, Merchandising, Engineering, Industrial Engineering or related field
• Minimum 5 years' experience in apparel or textile industry
• Knowledge of PC or Mac applications
• Advanced knowledge of apparel construction, material construction and properties, costing, pattern making, embroidery and screen-printing
• Good understanding of design and development and merchandising process from inception through production
• Ability to be a technical resource to others
• Strong oral and written communication skills including presentations
• Ability to clearly articulate goals and objectives
• Strong information seeking skills and drive to make things happen
• Ability to understand challenges or underlying concerns, share ideas, and develop effective responses or elevate to higher management
• Ability to lead initiatives and projects
• Knowledge of textile manufacturing
• Knowledge of garment fit and the ability to instruct a manufacturer on necessary changes to a pattern to influence the fit
• Ability to write product specs
• Understanding of the product creation process
• Proven skill at problem solving and continual innovation
• Ability to interpret design intent and offer alternative solutions
• Ability to demonstrate a sense of style, creativity and color to work with designer in accomplishing a point of view
• Ability to work with diverse group of people
• High aesthetic taste level
• Knowledgeable in Material Development and Garment Construction
