SUMMARY: Uses CAD/CAM software, such as SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD, to program various production machines to perform various tasks according to customer specifications. Generates Production Planning documents (Route Sheets).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Planning – Creates customer specific, as well as generic, Production Route Sheets in support of the production process. Utilizes available information and data supplied by various sources including Customer Service, Estimating, and the Customer. Reviews and approves planning prior to release into the production process. Makes necessary changes to master planning files as required and in accordance with internal and external requirements. Reviews and approves necessary changes to jobs already released and in the production process.
Programming - Downloads and/or receives engineering data (drawings, CAD files, ECO/ECN’s, Specifications, etc.) from Estimating and/or directly from customers. Manages received electronic data to prevent accidental or inappropriate use and ensures only correct versions of files are used for production. Creates programs for production equipment using received data. May communicate directly with customers to assist with or clarify design & manufacturing issues and/or conflicting information. Generates internal documentation and electronic files as needed for manufacturing and inspection purposes. Performs necessary upgrades, configuration, and installation of CAD/CAM software. Releases jobs to Production after programming is complete.
Continually monitors and is responsible for the quality of their work. Investigates and attempts to resolve problems. Seeks help from superiors when issues arise beyond their expertise or capabilities. Properly completes all production documentation (route sheet) and related paperwork. Transacts the ‘start’ and ‘stop’ of labor in the production computer system.
Ensures that the assigned work area’s appearance and safety is maintained in a clean and orderly fashion. Responsible for taking necessary precautions to ensure personal safety.
Individual is expected to continually contribute innovative ways of improving department processes in order to increase the quality and efficiency of their job.

QUALIFICATIONS: Excellent computer skills required. Must be proficient in the use and application of CAD/CAM software and principles. Ability to create programs and/or design drawings for production purposes is essential. Understanding sheet metal manufacturing processes in order to plan jobs appropriately is critical. Must work well under pressure to meet deadlines. Excellent math and communication skills are a necessity. Able to read and understand engineering drawings/blueprints. Must be thoroughly familiar with material properties related to sheet metal fabrication.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High School diploma or equivalent is required. Associates degree in engineering or programming preferred. Certification in Amada CAD/CAM is desirable. Prior experience with AutoCAD and SolidWorks is preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be comfortable sitting for long periods of time. Prolonged viewing of computer monitors and screens. Repetitive motion (mousing and keyboarding). Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Mostly a Standard Office environment with occasional Manufacturing Facility environment. Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be required.
