Pop and Classic Rock Trio is looking for a �Lead Singer / Front Person� (male or female) for a few rehearsals a month and paying gigs. All members are roughly in their 40�s & 50�s with plenty of live-pro experience. We have male & female singer/players available to give you several songs break each set. They will however mainly concentrate on good-solid harmonies. We have gig contacts and recent live experience, together. We are looking for someone to be the front-focal point and to identify with the audience. Female singers that can handle �typically-male� sung songs are OK. Easy going personalities all around, with desire to gradually cultivate clientele in clubs and casuals. We also have contacts with a couple keyboardists who we can enlist to help. We are open to rehearsing anywhere in SD, but have an equipped rehearsal space in Vista. Our members are from all over SD County. Hey there, I'm a regular gigging upright bass player with a couple other really talented musicians interested in getting a James Brown project going. We got you covered on the rhythm section, we'll lay down all those funky grooves for you but we still need the star. First off we don't give a damn if you look like James Brown at all... what we do care about is that you can sing these demanding parts with that same fearless commitment. We need you to sing, squeal, dance, shake, sweat, and be that Sex Machine.

We are all full time or part time musicians so this would definitely not be the band for beginners (unless you really are that good). We expect this to have an initial period of fine tuning all the music and then this will be a well paying band. I was Naive and Idealistic... ((619))

I walked into the sea of the music world quite naive....

I'd play my guitar everyday, and my chops were getting significantly better than average, not virtuoso by any means but good enough that I'd get random offers to try out for various established bands....

Many people I met involved with the music business and many more "wannabees" playing in bands going nowhere fast aren't exactly "great people." They will lie to manipulate a situation to their advantage. They will cheat others when they think they can get away with it. Shocking, huh? Also, the drug thing. I know people like to party and on occasion, I guess it's not so bad but when the rehearsal was more about everyone getting stoned and I haven't touched that shit in a long time, well, let's just say I felt like a vegan at a BBQ.

Then another thing, I wanted to write original music for deeply personal reasons. (That is a whole other post in and of itself.) While auditioning for bands that I more than had the ability to play in, I'd present my own material, which they would often show NO interest in. This would be a deal breaker for me. Friends accused me of being arrogant and told me I had to pay my dues. My attitude was I had more than paid my dues by practicing my ass off. More and more my resentment grew and I became quite distrustful. It seemed that the more I progressed on guitar, the more people wanted me in their bands. But since the whole reason I had pushed myself on guitar was to do originals, the idea of being a "puppet" in someone else's band was quite unappealing. The resentment and distrust continued to fester.... (this is where people will tell me I need therapy but I didn't really like "Some Kind of Monster.")

Much later on I see the music industry as a machine looking to make money in a confusing and ever changing landscape. It cares nothing of fulfilling my dreams. It would use me if it see's $$$ and cast me away in a heartbeat when I look like a liability. Anyone with an ounce of business sense knows this but I was idealistic. I had an unrealistic view of people and how the world worked. It's simple and pragmatic but free market forces and ever changing trends create a dynamic and even chaotic landscape. That's why one who seems to have it all together can be crushed so easily whereas someone else who maybe had some vision or foresight can go on to amazing success. (Hence there is no formula that I can see.) Perhaps, though, many do's and dont's.
I invested a great deal of time and effort into my playing and the love of playing is all I should expect in reward. I wanted to find like minded spirits who would go on to create memorable art (whatever that may be.) Instead the people I was meeting were untrustworthy creeps. Hindsight also shows that expecting people to pay you while making self-serving art is a luxury few achieve. I believe that many of my favorite artists who have great "credibility" in some circles definitely had a "financial" agenda.

Oh, well, this posting might be to "whiney" for the musicians s4ection and might be better in Rants and Raves. BTW, I'm not emo even if this post seems that way. Goodnight CL'rs

I have 20 plus years experience teaching bass lessons. I teach electric bass guitar of all styles, ages, levels - beginning intermediate and advanced. Studied at SDSU. Grossmont and Cuyamaca College - Teaching Degree in Music. 20 years performing experience. 1) Did World Tour to Japan. 2) USO Tour for US Military. 3) Perform Regularly, Locally, Las Vegas, Palm Springs, Palm Dessert, Laughland, Long Beach, Newport Beach, Vejas, Barona, Hard Rock Cafe, Qualcomm Stadium, just to name a few. I am a very thorough teacher. I teach in a step by step procedure, that is simple and easy to understand. Our band plays reggae, rocksteady, traditional ska music in the vein of the late 60s, early 70s. Right now we have drums, bass, organ, and 2 guitarists and have been covering some instrumentals. We are looking to increase our repertoire of songs by adding a singer/vocalist/ front person into the mix.

The style of music we play is pretty heavily influenced by soul, R&B, and funk, so we are looking for someone whom feels fairly comfortable singing this kind of stuff. More than anything, we are looking for someone with a decent tone, and can sing in key...anything else is a plus.

We are all 30+, have jobs and aren't neccesarily looking for fame or glory. Just looking to get tight, write some music of our own, and play the occasional gig. We have a great place to practice, and generally practice at least once during the week, and once on the weekend.

a san diego based community music project designed to support and feature up and coming local musicians & song-writers.

THE BIG IDEA/PROJECT IS: an ongoing process of assembling a "SAN DIEGO HOUSE BAND" type thing. INTIMATE & VIBEY ACOUSTIC BASED ROTATING ENSEMBLE for an underground pop project that will feature and support up and coming musicians & song-writers in san diego.

i am a guitar player whos real strength is in the area of recognizing, recruiting, organizing , and developing projects. ive played different roles in music projects. im not claiming any fame, but i am claiming substance in the form of song-writing, collaboration, solo performances, collaborative performances, lead guitar, sound engineering, organization, performance design,.......

hypothetical ensemble:
piano (ideally, visualize a minature acoustic piano)
bass (ideally, visualize a minature stand up)
guitars (acoustics, electrics, banjo, mando,slide, pedal steel.....)
sonic instruments via pedals and gadgets and cpu's...
strings
im even getting into horns when used properly
percussion (bells, shakers, cocktail kit, hand drums,...)

hypothetical vibe of hypothetical ensemble:
acousticky, earthy, indie, r&b/soul-rocky, alternative, folky, jazzy, cirqee, experimental & timeless vibe prefered. lots of stripped down type gigs, sets, and moments.

im open to possibilities and different kinds of instrumentation/performance. i myself prefer the more intimate type.

i just moved to san diego and plan to stay. this is the begining of a life-long project.

im easy going but very driven at the same time. i'm big on QUALITY CONTROL. i try to utilize peoples strenghts and give gentle cues, but I'M BIG ON QUALITY CONTROL. ive been a part of some very nice homegrown projects. i look forward to a special musical community that can do some real damage around town.

WELL KNOWNS: coltrane, ok computer, rufus wainwright's first 2 records, ray ray lamontagne's first record "trouble", the essence of led zep (i dont like everything they did, but probably my favorite band if i had to pick just one), van morrison's 1st solo record "astral weeks", allman bros band (ala dwayne era), racheal yamagata is interesting, cat power's song "the greatest", the miseducation of lauryn hill, bright eyes, damien rice's 1st record "O", the essence of jeff buckley although im only crazy about a handfull of his songs, marley, dylan, the black crowes (ala marc ford era), U2 has some excellent songs, "the sound of music" movie/soundtrack, a few citizen cope songs, curtis mayfield "live at the bitter end", purple rain, blood sugar sex magic, rage againt the machine's first and only record, .... to be continued ....not an all inclusive favorites list. just random and diverse ideas for points of reference.

this project is not intended to recreate anything. please note that what is described in this post should be recognized as the ultimate manifestation of the idea/project. although it is possible that it could manifest very quickly, realistically it will start small and i like the idea of it evolving over time. i hope to immediately get involved in developing projects.

Born in the barrio of Carlsbad, California in 1940, Victor Villase�or was raised on a ranch four miles north in Oceanside. Since his parents were born in Mexico, Villase�or spoke only Spanish until beginning school. After years of facing language and cultural barriers, heavy discrimination and a reading problem, later diagnosed as dyslexia, Victor dropped out of high school his junior year and moved to Mexico. There he discovered a wealth of Mexican art, literature, music, that helped him recapture and understand the dignity and richness of his heritage.

Victor returned to the U.S. at the age of 20.
