I was laid off at the end of August, suddenly, and I haven't been able to find work yet! Having been one of the many families living hand-to-mouth to begin with, we are now losing our apartment! Strangely, the $955 a month I am receiving from Unemployment is too much to get any financial help from the county (though thankfully they have granted us food stamps, so we are not starving), and when I called the county's 'supposed' helpline for the homeless, I was told there was nothing they could do to help me. So, I am being told by everybody pretty much that they can't help me. Even the few family members we had to go to in times of trouble have said they can't give us any help, not even shelter, not that there was really ever anywhere we could go to begin with.
What I am asking for is a place to live, for my family and myself, as of the 23rd, maybe sooner. We aren't going to be completely without money, I do receive $211 a week in unemployment (which I applied for August 28th, the day I was laid off and have been jerked around here and there to the end of me not having received ANY money from them yet!), and we get food stamps, so we aren't hungry, but the only offer we have for shelter so far, even from the county or state, is staying with my 'step-dad' (one of my moms ex boyfriends that I consider family) in his really dirty little one bedroom 37' trailer, where he has half his carpet covered with newspapers in case his cat poos on the floor, and where he tells us to just "watch out" for the cat vomit when we visit. Well, you can tell, that isn't the most sanitary place for the kids, and though a small trailer might be fine for us in the short term, sharing it with another (quite large and messy) person is a hard thing to prospect.
I am trying to ask the few of you out there with the space, anywhere in San diego county, could you please give us some space? 1 room would be fine for us all, even a trailer on your property would work, we only need a place at the longest until next March, hopefully not nearly that long. We could both work for our keep, Jeff was in Construction before his seizure, and I work in electronics, and we are both pretty technologically inclined, and could help with any computer or office work you could offer.
