Those Arrested in Immigration Raid Go to Court
Tuesday five Guatemalan immigrants appeared before a federal judge for their first immigration court appearance.
The five men who appeared were 26 year old Jose Luis Ramirez-Vasquez, 33 year old Andres Loarca-Reynoso, 40 year old Roberto Gabriel-Ramirez, 23 year old Juan Luis Dardon-Canelo and 35 year old Alfredo Gabriel-Torres. Four of the five have been deported from the U.S. before.
On April 16th, 100 suspected illegal immigrants were taken into custody from the Chattanooga Pilgrims Pride Chicken Plant. The five who appeared Tuesday told the judge they have a limited education, making it a challenge for their defense lawyer, Anthony Martinez.
"The only issue there might be is one of them spoke the Indian dialect Mayan, Mum and Spanish is his second language" he said.
Their trial dates are scheduled for early July.
