Puppy potty training....HELP!!! (Santee)

I have a 7 month old female miniature dachshund I am trying to potty train and any advise to help the process would be greatly appreciated. I take her outside on the leash and stand there what seems like an eternity waiting for her to do her thing and she doesn't so I bring her in and low and behold she goes in the house. How long should I be outside with her waiting for her to go to the bathroom? How long does it typically take for a dog to get trained. Wow, cats can be so much easier. Help please, I want to get her house trained. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
