Short term position available for an Inclusion Technician.
The federal government has provided funding for an Inclusion Technician with our agency. The ARRA funding for this position goes away on June 18, 2009.
This position will end on June 18, 2009.

Must have a reliable transportation to attend IEP meetings.

Summary Statement
Under the supervision of the Disabilities Specialist, the Inclusion Technician is responsible for providing support to the center staff, parents, and children with disabilities in activities designed to promote social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth. The Inclusion Technician is also responsible for implementing specific interventions determined necessary for children. Other responsibilities include but are not limited to curriculum development and implementation, promotion of positive inclusion, and the assurance of safety of all children.

Essential Functions and Accountabilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Assist Teacher(s) in implementing daily classroom activities ensuring inclusion of all children.
Assist with personalized special services for children with disabilities (i.e. feeding assistance, toileting, diapering, urine bags, physically lifting and carrying the child, etc.)
Assist staff in making referrals for further evaluation or services.
Discuss the progress of the child (ren) with disabilities with the teacher(s) and assist in the development of individual action/education plans for child (ren) as needed.
Assist teacher(s) in maintaining classroom control by interacting with all of the children including children without disabilities during the classroom routine.
Participate in all classroom activities including field trips and socializations.
Lift, carry, and ensure the safety of children as needed.
Advocate, as appropriate, for the rights of the children with disabilities and their families.
Implement behavior management techniques as advised by the agency’s mental health consultants and other professionals.
Work cooperatively with the Teacher and all other staff to coordinate classroom strategies for children with disabilities and behavioral issues, assisting in the classroom, or outdoors as needed.
Be involved with meal times and provide necessary support.
Attend Center Staff meetings, Pre-Service, In-Service, and other required meetings and trainings.
Maintain and enhance professional competence through participation in professional organizations and other activities on a voluntary or assigned basis.
Assume responsibility for parent involvement as appropriate.
Education and/or Experience
Either an Associates Degree or higher in Child Development/Early Childhood Education or related field and Child Development Teacher Permit and meet the requirements for the State of California Teacher Child Development Permit; one (1) year or more experience working directly with preschool children which includes working with children with disabilities.

Language Skills
Bilingual-Head Start strives to employ staff fluent in the languages of the children and families we serve.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before staff, Providers, and parents.

Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should be computer literate and have knowledge of MS Word and Excel and related software programs.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Must have valid CA Driver's license, demonstrate a good driving record
Have access and use of an insured vehicle for work related travel that includes the ability to get to all required meetings, training and workshops and other in county locations on a consistent basis. Verification of insurance required for personal car usage.
DOJ Child Abuse clearance
Pediatric First Aid/CPR certification and Food Handlers Certificate must be met within 90 days of employment and to be updated as required.
Must meet and maintain state law and County licensing requirements regarding employment in a childcare center (Fingerprints, TB, and Physical)
A verification of T.B. clearance at time of employment (issued within 6 months prior to employment). It is to be renewed every year after employment.

Other Skills and Abilities
Appropriate child development theories and practices (working with 3-5 years of age).
Head Start Program Performance standards and other applicable regulations,
Must have knowledge of adult learning theory.
Must be familiar with Head Start philosophy.
Must be willing to work evenings and/or weekends, as needed.
Must be able to relate well to all people of the community regardless of color, national origin, religion, sex, pregnancy, age, marital status, veteran status, sexual orientation, disability, or socio-economic level.
Must be familiar with local, state, and federal regulations concerning health and safety issues for children.
Must be able to maintain confidentiality.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and sit. The employee must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
