Kennon S. Shea & Associates, San Diego's largest family owned provider of skilled nursing care, is currently hiring for the position of Sr. Accountant. This position will assist the Controller in gathering, analyzing and reporting monthly financial information, to include Balance Sheet, Income Statement and Cash Flows, for 10 companies, both separately and consolidated.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Assists in the hiring of additional accounting staff over the next 6 months as accounting functions transition from an outside service company to an in-house accounting department.
- Assists in the development of accounting processes to improve efficiencies.
- Assist with annual CPA reviews.
- Manages the monthly financial closings of 10 companies, including analysis and financial reporting in compliance with GAAP.
- Analyzes the inter-affiliate balance sheet and income statement accounts for proper consolidated financial reporting.
- Prepares the monthly inter-affiliate invoices.
- Maintains fixed asset accounting records and related analysis of contra-asset and expense accounts. Understanding of Construction-in-progress and placed-in-service concepts.
- Timely reconciliation of numerous bank accounts.
- Solid understanding and the hands-on ability to complete the payroll processing cycle and related journal entries. Experience with payroll software conversions would be helpful.
- Reconciles quarterly and annual payroll tax returns.
- Provides excellent customer service to the various internal users of company prepared financial reports.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to multi-task and set priorities based on Sr. Managements financial information requests.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE - BS / BA in Business emphasizing accounting and 3+ years of corporate accounting experience. Excel experience necessary. Strong knowledge of GAAP. Experience with Microsoft Great Plains and FRx report writing a plus. Healthcare industries experience a plus.

LANGUAGE SKILLS - Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance, accounting pronouncements, and procedure manuals in the English Language. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively to customers or employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS - Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, percentages, allocations and amortization schedules.

REASONING ABILITY - Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or accounting form.
