Summary
The Director of Software Development provides technical leadership and direction for the successful conception, design and implementation of product line extensions. Utilizes experience with resource management methodologies and techniques, to manage the successful execution and completion of projects. Manages and leads software engineers engaged in security software development.
Duties and Responsibilities
Recruits, manages and retains the necessary resources to successfully perform the duties for the Engineering group. Provide day-to-day management of department, including developing and administering policies, business processes and quality standards. Ensure that deliverables are on time, within budget, and meets the quality levels expected by St Bernard Software's internal and external customers. Defines, applies and demonstrates use of metrics when managing development resources.
Collaborates with Senior Engineering and Product Management staff to research, analyze, scope and specify product line extensions in Internet security and acceptable use policy enforcement from a security appliance, on-demand services and software solutions.
Collaborates and coordinates with other product line development groups.
Oversees the creation of and execution against a development schedule.
Represents St. Bernard Software to external development partners and industry groups.
Manages project management of software product updates and releases from initiation through maintenance-specifically including communication and risk mitigation.
Possesses deep involvement in the design of sub-system interactions.
Participates in the strategic decisions about technology, definition, and implementation of software development.

Requirements and Experience
A Bachelor's or higher degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.
12+ years of software development experience, with 5+ years leadership.
Thorough understanding of software design and development methodologies and practices.
Proven ability to architect appliance-based, service-based solutions, and hybrid solutions.
Working knowledge of BSD/Linux sufficient to technically assess and manage products based on FreeBSD that include kernel-level drivers.
Experience in hardware design.
Experience working with open source software development.
Sufficient understanding of Internet protocols to participate in technical planning and management of web-filtering solutions.
Detailed knowledge and proven experience with project, schedule, scope and risk-management techniques.
Excellent oral and written communication skills and an ability to lead the translation of high-level business requirements into detailed technical requirements.
Good negotiation skills and the ability to operate among conflicting requests and opinions.
Strong team building and influencing skills, with a track record of creating focus and momentum.
Proven track record of producing quality products.
