SUMMARY
The primary role of this position is to empower our user community with access to the right information at the right time. This position is about more than just data, as data without interpretation is interesting but not actionable. This position is responsible for taking complex projects related to specific business problems (as defined by senior management) and synthesizing data, distilling findings, and recommending next steps. Carry out statistical analyses, construct computer models, and undertake data mining studies to (1) answer research questions put forward by the company’s finance, marketing, sales and operations departments; (2) simulate probable outcomes from critical business decisions; and (4) summarize data regarding key factors affecting business operations and performance for interpretation and action by non-technical managers.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Work closely with business leaders to understand their processes, gather and document reporting/analysis requirements, and translate those requirements into functional and non-functional specifications.
• Identify impediments and obstacles which prevent the user community from accessing the information they require
• Develop methods, training plans, and tools to overcome those obstacles
• Work with Senior Business Data Analyst to enhance ETL, data marts, and stored procedures in support of user needs.
• Provide application-level maintenance and support of our Cognos suite, to include configuration changes, patches and upgrades.
• Create methodology for extracting data. Methodologies can include Access databases, Excel spreadsheets, data cubes, report models, or custom SQL queries
• Develop models, reports, and graphs depicting historic data and forecasted trends.
• Perform analyses across multiple dimensions, such as lead source, location, or product.
• Understand and recommend action on key drivers of KPIs
• Develop and maintain accurate system documentation including information about attributes and business rules. Assists with the maintenance of data dictionaries.
• Maintain understanding of BI technology trends and uses this knowledge to bring solutions to business units and IT.
• Consult with business leaders to ensure that analytical studies produce usable results.
• Draft and update 5-year dynamic business models.
• Communicate effectively and professionally, in both oral and written communications, with all levels of the organization.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum three years of experience in an analytical or planning position, or equivalent.
Detail oriented with strong organizational, technical, and problem solving skills.
Good judgment and decision making skills and the ability to communicate effectively to all levels of the organization is essential.
Proven results using quantitative methods and probability models to inform business decision-making.
Experience modeling and analysis using advanced applications of Access, Excel, and SSAS cubes.
Experience building dimensional metadata models using Cognos Framework Manager required.
Minimum two years experience in report/dashboard design and development using Cognos Report Studio.
