JOB TITLE: Network Administrator II

REPORTS TO: Senior Manager, Information Services

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Carl Zeiss Vision is seeking an experienced Network Administrator with a “can-do” attitude who will thrive in fast-paced highly-productive work environment. Candidate must be able to work in a team environment as well as deliver on key initiatives independently, from conception through completion, of various network related tasks. Candidate might be assigned project leadership for entire LAN/WAN hardware/software development projects through implementation. This includes providing direction and assistance to other staff members assigned to the project.

A qualified candidate will have experience setting up and maintaining Windows servers, mail servers, telephony switches and VoIP networks, wireless and wired LANs, backup and recovery systems and processes, Blackberry server, and generally supporting database maintenance and Windows users. Applicants must have solid experience related to data security, recoverability, network and server performance tuning, and optimizing network uptime. Candidate is expected to also provide second and third-level support for all Help Desk and Desktop support personnel.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Works with users and IS technical and management personnel to assess and determine LAN/WAN future architecture, functional and capacity requirements, both immediate and long-term.
2. Supports instant messaging, team collaboration and content streaming based on Microsoft Office Communication Server technology.
3. Technical support for EDI applications based on X12 and AS2 standards.
4. Measures and evaluates LAN/WAN usage and functional behavior to assess consumption of available resources, and to determine optimal utilization of available resources.
5. Supports messaging and collaboration functions based on Microsoft Exchange and other technologies in a multi-server and multi-site topology.
6. Monitor data flow and how it is used, shared, and stored for local and international email communication services. Provide data consistency and dependability between remote local and international sites.
7. Plans, implements and monitors procedures and functions to assure authorized access to and use of LAN/WAN facilities to prevent their unauthorized access and use.
8. Provides administrative and technical support for SQL database applications.
9. Provides support to users in installing, supporting and troubleshooting Microsoft desktop applications and communication software and hardware as necessary.

SECONDARY JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Maintains documentation of the LAN/WAN network environment.
2. Define, publish and maintain standards for the application and use of the LAN/WAN network environment that sustain its integrity while meeting current and planned company requirements.
3. Perform additional tasks as directed.

JOB CONDITIONS/COMPLEXITY:

Usual office environment. Requires ability to use keyboard, mouse, and other computer entry devices for a sustained period of time. May be required to work occasionally in factory or laboratory environment. May require travel, typically under 20%, and work outside standard work hours. Requires lifting up to 50 pounds.

Works on extremely complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an evaluation of intangible variables. Exercises independent judgment in developing methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or related field.

Certification as a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE).

Requires 6 years experience in the administration and implementation of LAN/WAN using Microsoft Windows, Active Directory and Microsoft Exchange in an environment with over 1000 users.

Requires excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to function effectively in an unstructured environment.
