Senior SAP Business Intelligence Analyst
The Port of San Diego is currently accepting applications/resumes for the position of Senior SAP Business Intelligence Analyst.
The ideal candidate will:
• Be proficient in SAP Business Warehouse 3.0 and 7.0 query design, development and deployment
• Be proficient in Microsoft Excel at an advanced level as the reporting tool for the BW queries (e.g., AutoFilter, links among files, hidden worksheets, simple VB modules, and formulas with nested IF, VLOOKUP, SUMIF, and SUBTOTAL)
• Have experience in SAP SEM/BPS in support of a Public Sector budget preparation system (e.g., maintenance of layouts, parameter groups, and menus).
• Have a strong understanding of the SAP BW infrastructure (e.g., Standard Business Content; InfoProviders, DataSources and Source Systems; process chains and their diverse components; roles, menus, and authorization objects)
• Have strong business and analytical skills, especially in public sector budget preparation, financial analysis and operational reporting needs.
• Have a solid understanding of accounting and business operations from an end-user’s perspective
• Have excellent writing and speaking communication skills with co-workers, management, and vendors - the ability to explain technical issues and functions to non-technical users
• Have the desire to be an individual contributor and work in a small close-knit team

The Senior BI Analyst performs a wide variety of concurrent projects and assignments to support the Business Warehouse that meet the diverse requirements of Port IT customers in both operational and support divisions, in an efficient and cost effective manner.
The Senior BI Analyst will:
• Work with the Port’s Business Systems Analysts and customers to define business requirements, resolve technical issues and provide training.
• Work with Consultants to provide specifications for implementing standard content, building process chains, custom cubes and extractors.
• Research emerging technologies and attend conferences and courses to provide leadership in taking the Port’s BI to the next level in support of business analytics and decision-making.
• Recommend best practices and policy in BI implementation, maintenance, and data quality.
This position provides front-end support to Business Intelligence (BI) users of the data warehouse using the Port’s standard data warehousing systems, the SAP Business Warehouse (BW) and Business Planning and Simulation (BPS) modules. This position also provides technical (not financial or contractual) oversight of the Port’s back-end BW administration contractor and of the upcoming contract for a technical upgrade of our BW installation to version 7.0.
At the Port, the term "front end" refers to BW queries and reports created under SAP Business Explorer Analyzer, plus SEM/BPS layouts, menus, planning packages, etc. At present, the Senior BI Analyst personally performs all front end tasks. It is intended that the Senior BI Analyst prepare documentation and user training for a future super-user team that will be able to create reports for end users.
The Senior BI Analyst formulates work assignments for the Port’s back-end BW administration consultants and performs quality assurance on their deliverables, such as: newly-activated standard business content; custom-built extractors, data sources, and InfoProviders; transfer rules, update rules, InfoPackages, process chains, etc., needed to load data from ECC and other Source Systems into BW; and appropriate technical and user documentation.
