Telecommunications and IT Technician
Tight-nit Telecommunications Company located in City Heights area of San Diego seeks confident, self-directed, IT professional who is motivated and will excel in a multi-task and multi-function position. The ability to communicate effectively with non technical users in explaining technical details is important. Candidate should be comfortable performing Sales Engineering role. This individual must work exceptionally well as part of a team. Current opening is for part time and is a temp to hire position.
Must have the following
- Reliable transportation - willing to use vehicle for transportation to/from job sites
- Understanding of POTS, ISDN, PRI, T1, Wireless technology, WAN and LAN components and devices
- Understand switching, routing, VLAN’s, DHCP
- Basic understanding of VoIP
- Successful progression of knowledge and skills in telecommunication and information technologies
- Telecom Tools (Punch-down tool with 66/110 blade - cut and daisy, butt-set, banjo, snips, tool bag / pouch, work boots, flash light, rj-45/11 crimp tool, lineman pliers, power drill with step-bits, screw driver both Philips and slotted, tone generator and inductive loop amplifier/wand, fish tape, and other tools as necessary)
- Experience installing CAT 3/5/6 fiber cabling including knowledge of standards and practices related to proper termination, cable/pathway support, fire-stopping, data/telecom racks, backbone cabling, etc.
- Experience with large campus cabling environments (cross-connect fields, OSP and ISP terminating)
- Excellent problem solving, troubleshooting and communications skills, especially over the telephone
Technician with the majority of the following
- Several industry recognized certifications (Comp-TIA, Cisco, TIA, IEEE, BICSI, Microsoft, ANSI, NEC, etc.)
- Additional telecom tools (66 to modular plug tap, hard hat, CAT 3/5/6 tester, fiber tester, fiber hot melt/epoxy tool kit, socket set, security bit set)
- Familiarity with remote access including dial-up modems, remote desktop/rdp, VNC
- Understanding of multi-vendor firewall function, operation, administration, and maintenance.
- Experience with PC computers in a networked environment
- Experience with IP Phones
- Willing to teach other technicians
- Experience with boom and scissor lifts
- Ability to occasionally work nights and weekends
