My name is Derek. I'm just about to turn 21, have played all my life, I just got my first real keyboard and I'm looking to play.

With regards to my playing style, I consider myself to be a technique junkie, and I love improvising. I mostly land in the jazz area, for which I have a strong passion, but there is a definite place for rock and roll in my heart.

Really, at this point in my life I'm just looking to play. I'm down for a lot right now. I feel I am very versatile as I have spent a lot of time studying composition and arrangements.

I'm always really looking for jazz... everything from hard bob, swing, latin jazz, I feel like I'm down. Some of my favorite pianists are Herbie Hancock, Horace Silver, Bill Evans, and Vince Guaraldi, and I feel like I am pretty thoroughly familiar with the jazz body of work from Cole Porter to Wayne Shorter.

I'm into rock too, but it will sound jazzy. Its in my hands and ears and the way I arrange at this point in my life. David Bowie is my favorite. Generally i'm into bands from england from like the late 60s and early 70s. The Kinks, The Beatles, The Stones, T.Rex, Velvet Underground, also I really like Elton John, Stevie Wonder. I'm feel like I'm pretty familiar with the genre.

What do I do? I am a piano teacher. I have 30+ students. I teach all levels and difficulties, and I specialize in arranging and improvising. I feel like I take teaching very seriously and I have developed my own approach to playing that sets me apart from other teachers. I have students that have stayed with me for a year+, and I regularly get referred to new students.

My playing experience has been kinda limited by my lack of a keyboard, and the fact that I am pretty young. I've done random things here and there but I really am in the beginning of my career for sure. Don't let that scare you away. I feel like I am a professional, and I am looking for other professionals.

I have a rig! I just got a Yamaha S90 es. I am about to buy a speaker, and all that I am waiting for is a day where I have time to go down to Guitar Center. Probably next week, but if I needed to I could make it tomorrow morning.

Unfortunately, I have just moved and I haven't gotten my shit set up to get any kind of a recording down with my new keyboard yet, but its coming. If you hassle me about it, maybe it would help me get that together.

I'm living in clairemont and I have a car, so I'm mobile, but I really would like to keep it in san diego. I really don't like the idea of going all the way to oceanside, or down south to chula vista, but depending on the project I don't want to rule it out.

Please, if you have some questions for me or would like to contact me, give me a call @ 858-610-8110 and leave a message (I'm usually in a lesson) or email me @ tantocomo@gmail.com.

p.s. Someone hit me up, cause I've been working for a while to get this keyboard and now I'm ready to play!!
