Under the direction of the Public Relations Manager, the Public Relations Coordinator will support the marketing department's communications efforts by assuming responsibility for of a range of projects involving media relations, external communications, creative efforts and social media to support Competitor events.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1.Write and distribute media materials, including press releases, pitches and media alerts, to secure news coverage 50%
2. Cultivate relationships with local, regional, and national media outlets to proactively pitch endurance sports stories and actively respond to information requests 25%
3. Track media coverage and develop quarterly media coverage reports as well as event -specific media reports. 20%
4. Various duties within the event division that are not necessarily public relations related 5%
REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:
The ideal candidate will be able to creatively develop and pitch ideas and media-worthy stories. The candidate must be a superior writer and strategic thinker, with the capacity to follow-through on long-range plans while managing emerging news. Must have the ability to wear many hats (multitasking) and be savvy in social media and new media. Prior experience working with traditional media (TV, radio and print) is required.
Candidates should have a degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or a related field and at least three (3) years of increasingly responsible professional level experience in public relations or media.
