Behavior Specialist-Autism performs a variety of professional work in behavioral and parent training including behavioral intervention of children with autism or children with behavioral concerns who may or may not be on the autism spectrum, assessment of children's needs using appropriate psychometric assessment tools, and consultation with colleagues, pediatricians, and community organizations. Position may include leading or co-leading social skills group for children with autism, including leading parent groups designed to teach parents positive behavioral support techniques, and training staff or community members in autism specific techniques.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Demonstrated competency in varied treatment modalities for children with special needs
Computer skills sufficient to perform data entry, production of educational materials and word processing
License or certification that would allow for insurance billing
For non-grant funded programs, BCBA, MFT, LCSW, or other license/certification that would allow for insurance billing (excluding CAIC)
For grant funded programs, certification in evidenced based parent training such as Redirecting Children's Behavior (RCB) or Incredible Years (IY)
Addendum to Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree in clinical, developmental, or educational psychology or related field with major emphasis on child development, and education and treatment of children and their families
Competency in working with children with special needs and their families in parent training
Three years experience working with children with Autistic Spectrum Disorders
Two years recent experience in a pediatric setting (within the last two years)
Coursework or experience in using behavior modification and positive behavioral programming.
Demonstrated ability to maintain and manage caseload, to complete records in timely manner, to provide a variety of community services, and to work effectively and harmoniously with professional and support staff
A thorough knowledge of developmental disabilities, applied behavior analysis, developmental psychology, psychological testing, and behavioral assessment
Training in autism specific intervention techniques such as Pivotal Response Training, DIR/Floor Time, Picture
Exchange Communication System and functional analysis
Experience facilitating social interaction in children with autism in-group settings
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Greater than 5 years of directly related experience
Bilingual English/Spanish
