The Active Network is currently seeking a UNIX Systems Engineer for our IT Department.
CRITICAL PERFORMANCE AREAS:
Maintain expert understanding of technical best practices for Unix systems and provide recommendations for improvement
Install, configure, and maintain Unix based systems on bare metal and in a VMware ESX environment
Develop strategies and perform post provisioning tasks for backups, monitoring, alerting and disaster recovery
Proficiency in managing an ESX VMware environment
Provide appropriate communication, facilitate bringing other parties together, and complete post resolution reporting for high severity incidents
Design, implement and administer SAN or NAS solutions
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain expert understanding of technical best practices for Unix systems and provide recommendations for improvement
Install, configure, and maintain Unix/Linux based systems
Develop strategies and perform post provisioning tasks for backups, monitoring, alerting and disaster recovery
Provide appropriate communication, facilitate bringing other parties together, and complete post resolution reporting for high severity incidents
Administer SAN or NAS solutions
Administer F5 and Zeus ZXTM load balancers
Provide mentorship to more junior personnel
Maintain high level understanding of system security and hw to harden a system
Drive assigned projects and their related tasks
Configure RAID groups, LUNs, LUN masking and other storage allocation tasks as necessary
Develop and maintain effective relationships with 3rd Party partners
Participate in on-call rotation, receiving and responding to afterhours alerts
Identify and evaluate new technologies that can improve processes within IT and the business as a whole
Identify weak points and vulnerabilities within infrastructure and provide recommendations for improvement
Create, update and enhance written Standard Operating Procedures and documentation using guidelines focused on ease of understanding and completeness
Perform after-hours or weekend server maintenance and product code releases as needed
Perform problem resolution including root cause analysis
Perform troubleshooting for complex hardware, software and network problems
Perform detailed log analysis
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
Four-year degree in Information Technology or related field experience
Five years in Systems Administration Unix Solaris/ Linux
Five years experience using server monitoring and reporting tools
Five years experience designing complex Server environments
Experience with scripting experience: bash, perl, c+, python, etc.
Four years experience designing, implementing, and supporting technologies such as DNS, HTTP, SSL, CIFS/NFS, load balancing, LDAP
Four years experience working with complex networking technologies, such as layer 2/3 switches, routers, firewalls, load balancers, web content filters, and VLANs
Three years in designing and supporting SAN/NAS technologies in both a Windows and Unix environment
Four years in VMware and its related technologies (ESX, Virtual Center)
Strong knowledge of the software development cycle, understanding the release processes for Integration, QA, Stage, and Production
Experience with HP/Netapp/Sun ZFS solutions
Experience with F5 or Zeus ZXTM Load Balancer
Strong expertise supporting multiple web servers a plus
Experience with RedHat, Solaris 10, CentOS, VMware ESX 3.x
Strong understanding of remote file system protocols (NFS/CIFS/iSCSI)
Experience with Java application deployment, clustering and application rollout/integration and familiarity with J2EE concepts a plus
