In what is likely to be one of the best deals ever offered through Craig's List�

On March 19th 1983 I purchased this 25 HP Mercury ML (Manual Start/Long Shaft 20"), tiller handled, outboard motor new for $1,610.50. I installed the motor on a 15� Gregor Aluminum �Baja Special� boat intending to use it on trips to the bays of Baja, Mexico. It was used on 3 such trips. Subsequently to those trips it was used 8 times in the freshwater reservoirs here in San Diego. At this point several life altering events occurred. The events were all good. I purchased a Skeeter Bass boat which covered my freshwater fishing and I began fishing the ocean in much larger boats. I became less comfortable traveling through Northern Baja and simply stopped even planning trips there. Over the years the Gregor was sold but I retained the Merc, vowing to replace the Gregor and resuming my trips to Baja. For over 25 years the motor has been in my garage and now I realize that a small boat, Baja, and I are no longer a possibility. So realizing that, I�m putting the motor up for sale.

The motor is in immaculate condition. There are certainly less than 25 hours on the motor; in terms of motor life it is barely broken in. The motor has always been kept in my garage and once every couple of years I will go to the trouble to fire it up and let it run, which I recently did, and the motor runs like new. I always run all the gas out of the motor so the fuel system is clean. According to the literature the motor is suppose to get 14.4 MPG.

Included with the motor is the original Owner�s Operation and Maintenance Manual, a 1982 sales catalog, 2 unused replacement spark plugs, the original back-up starter rope, the original warranty card, the fuel economy chart, the original transom mounting bolts, washers and nuts (unused), and I even have the Service Manual. Also included is the original 6 gallon gas tank and fuel hose. The wooden motor stand can be included if you wish.

This motor is for the person looking to have new motor performance at a �good� used motor price. However I will not be selling the motor for the NADA suggested price of $125-$140. If I cannot sell the motor for an fair price than I will donate the motor to a charity as likely the tax benefit and satisfaction would be greater.

A new 25 HP Mercury would cost about $3,000.00. Granted the motor of today is substantially different than one made in 1983 however both put out 25 HP. �Fair� would be somewhere between $500 and $1,000. Of course I believe that the motor is worth at least what I paid for it�

The boat has a Mercruiser 12 HP freshwater cooled engine and Alpha One outdrive. It gets 2.5 mpg. It comes with a new galvanized trailer with torsion axles manufactured by FE Trailers. The top will keep the sun off of you and store 8 rods in the rocket launcher rod holders. There is storage space for 4 additional rods on the engine box. This is the perfect boat for fishing the local kelp beds or the Coronado Islands. If you pick your days carefully, it will also get you out to the local banks to get limits of tuna.

With desert season, we have not had time to hit the ocean since all of my spare time and money has gone into my sand toys.

1995 Bayliner 20.5 foot Capri Open-Bow ski boat. Great family boat with only 200 original hours on the motor. Powerful 8-cylinder Mercruiser motor. We moved from northern California, where we used this boat in freshwater only. Only two dips into saltwater, and flushed both times. Kept covered. We just invested $1,500 in a full exam and service, with tune up and all new fluids, elastomers and bellows in the engine and outdrive. Documentation available.
We use about 8-10 gallons per day when we ski.

NADA value is $5500. For this price you also get 12 life jackets, three sets of skis, one wakeboard, three spare propellers and lines and bumpers. Her engine is a powerful V-8 with some sort of high performance intake manifold, I don't have much info regarding this engine, but I sure know is highly poweful !

We have too many boats and can not find time and motivation to engage this project. Boat is currently parked at the side-dock at Marina Cortez, Harbor Island, San Diego.
